UAV PILOT GROUND SCHOOL LIGHT

Our Light Ground School Certificate Program covers all of the topics found in the Transport Canada (TP 15263E) “Recommended Knowledge Requirements” for Pilots of UAV systems 25kg or less, Operating within Visual Line of Sight.

Transport Canada has announced  the new regulations (January, 2019) will come into effect on June 1st, 2019.

Transport Canada is now issuing examinations for both basic and advanced operation licenses.

Upon completion of our UAV Ground School Light Program, participants will be issued a knowledge test in which a passing grade (Transport Canada examination) of 80% must be achieved. An OpenAir UAV Pilot Ground School Certificate will be issued to those that successfully pass our course with a passing grade of more than 70%.

As Transport Canada prepares to regulate and license commercial UAV operators, passing the knowledge test will give participants a major leg up when commercial UAV use is integrated into the national airspace. Even recreational users will benefit from the knowledge and confidence gained from successful completion of our UAV Ground School program.

Transport Canada will be issuing a pilot permit (upon successful completion of the basic and/or advanced examination required by them) that is specific to small UAV systems (250 grams to 25 kilograms), and restricted to Visual Line Of Sight operation.

In order to fly a commercial UAV, operators in Canada must apply to Transport Canada for a Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC). Much like a flight plan for a conventional aircraft, the SFOC includes all the information relating to the intended use of the UAV. The other two areas are UAV system design standards and operator requirements. SFOC application approvals may be granted more quickly if the pilot has passed an approved UAV course, as proof of knowledge.  This information will be required until the new laws take effect on June 1st, 2019.

UAV Ground School Subjects include the following:

Canadian Air Regulations (CARs) Airports & Aerodromes
Human Factors Meteorology
Radio Operators Certificate (ROC) Special Flight Operator Certificate (Until June 1st, 2019)
Pilot Decision Making Advanced Examination and preparation for flight review

Having passed our course module tests with a  grade of 70% or above, students will be issued an OpenAir “Ground School UAV Pilot Certificate”

Books & Charts can be purchased at an additional charge.
